In 2004 Jay and Beth Schabel purchased a 64 acre farm in Auburn, Ohio. Being originally from Iowa, they wanted to pass on the farm experience and work ethic tradition to their four children. The Schabels also felt it was important to give back to the community which had given so much to their family. Welcoming families onto their farm, while raising money for the community, began very quickly after moving onto the land that they named Auburn Twin Oaks. The farm was named after the two large oak trees growing on one corner of the property.
With the help of their friends, Shadow Woodstock was soon underway for the first annual event in May of 2005. If you are wondering where the name Shadow Woodstock comes from, you need not look any further than their street address on Shadow Wood Circle. The first year they raised $15,000 for two charities (UMDF and MS). The next year the number grew to $50,000 and nine charities. In 2007, over $100,000 was distributed to innovative charities in NE Ohio.
The main focus of ATO Charities is to provide a helping hand (time, talents and treasures) to people or organizations that wish to start a new charitable endeavor or take their existing charity in a new pro-active direction. The focus of Shadow Woodstock is both a celebration of those new charities and to serve as a vehicle to connect the charities with people in the community with a desire to lend a helping hand.
New in 2008 is our one-of-a-kind event center, vineyard, winery, and wine production facility, all of which will help support the work of ATO Charities.
